It is the time of the year when we are looking for applicants to join the Governing Committee of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development for a two-year term (with up to two renewals) upon adjournment of the ABA Annual Meeting (August 2020).
The Governing Committee is a working board with each member responsible for heading a committee or serving as a liaison to other entities. We plan the Forum’s annual meeting in May, as well as Mid-Winter Conference, internet programs, monitoring and working with our practice and administrative committees, and helping with fundraising, mentoring, and publishing the Forum’s Journal. We have nine monthly phone calls, two in-person meetings "on the road" that each last about two days, and a third meeting connected to our Annual May Conference in Washington, DC. All members of the Governing Committee are expected to attend and contribute to these calls and meetings.
All Governing Committee Members must be a current member of the ABA and the Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law. In addition, we are looking for people who have participated in our programs and committees, and/or demonstrated skills in running educational programs, mentoring others, working with government agencies, fund raising, accounting/bookkeeping, publishing, or technology.
The Nominating Committee will select a slate of nominees, with the approval of the current Governing Committee, for election at the Forum’s Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, on May 20-22, 2020.
You may apply for consideration by the Nominating Committee on or before March 13, 2020, by sending an e-mail to Dawn R. Holiday, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your e-mail should provide the following:
1. Your name, phone number and e-mail address
2. A brief statement of your interest, qualifications and contribution you expect you can make to the GC?
Please feel free to contact me directly if you’d like to discuss your interest before applying.
