Dear Forum Members –
First the bad news - as many of you know, we have made the difficult, but necessary, decision not to hold our annual conference in Montreal this year. We have also canceled our Space and Drone Law conferences for June.
We will be back in Montreal for 2021, which corresponds to the 200th anniversary of McGill University and the 70th anniversary of McGill’s Institute of Air and Space Law!
Now for the good news – we as an aviation community remain optimistic that we will soon again be hopping on planes and traveling to be with each other before this fall. Many in the industry may not view the fall as an “early” timeframe for resuming travel! To that end, we are currently planning for the industry’s first (hopefully) post-COVID-19 aviation event in September.
We’re very excited to be planning a month of Forum content along the following lines:
- Our Annual Meeting will be a blended conference, with both a 1-day in-person conference to be held in DC on September 11th and live virtual programming in the days before/after the main conference.
- During the month of September, our committees will each be hosting their own live virtual programming in lieu of their normal in-person conferences.
- For those unable to attend the live session in person or view the live content in real-time, all sessions will be recorded and available on-demand for future viewing to members.
- As a way of saying thank you to all of our members and sponsors for their long-term support, all content will be free to Forum on Air & Space Members!
We believe that this provides maximum flexibility for planning and attendance purposes (including if we need to change our 1-day event to a virtual event), allows us to attract exciting speakers from all over the world to participate virtually, highlights our amazing committees with sector-specific content, and will be the leading post-COVID aviation event of the fall!
Finally, I encourage you to sign up for committees, including our two newest committees - Cargo and Sustainability, and join the discussion on ABA Connect. We will be sending out more information on our committees and ABA Connect next week, but in the meantime, we encourage you to sign up at connect.americanbar.org/airspaceconnect/home and start engaging today!
Stay tuned for more details on content and venue. If you are interested in getting involved with planning or content, please reach out to your committee chairs via ABA Connect or to the Program Committee Chairs (Leslie Abbott, David Heffernan, and Prof. Brian Havel) for more information.
