The Alabama State Bar is seeking a director of admissions. This is a highly responsible administrative and supervisory position which reports to the bar's executive director, who also serves as secretary of the Alabama State Bar Board of Examiners.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Reviewing and certifying law student registration applications, bar examination applications, and applications for admission on motion (reciprocity);
  • Determining whether an applicant should be referred to the Character and Fitness Committee;
  • Serving as the liaison for the Character and Fitness Committee in scheduling hearings and assisting them in carrying out its responsibilities;
  • Reviewing requests for testing accommodations under the Americans With Disabilities Act; and
  • Assisting the Board of Bar Examiners in developing policies and procedures related to the format and administration of the bar examination.
  • Juris Doctorate from an American Bar Association accredited law school, post-graduate degree with professional licensing experience, or a strong working knowledge of high stakes examinations
  • Strong supervisory skills including several years' experience managing multi-faceted programs
  • Experience working with a board of directors in a public, private, or non-profit organization as well as coordinating volunteers
  • Familiarity with issues involving disabilities and reasonable accommodations a plus
