I hope your 2013 holidays were restful and have gotten you ready for a busy 2014!
January has delivered a strong start for TIPS CLE programming. Earlier this month, the Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee sponsored a regional program in Chicago for local members and TIPS co-sponsored the Ski and CLE Civil Litigation Program, where many members gathered to ski, network and learn in beautiful Vail, CO. The 40th Annual TIPS Midwinter Symposium on Life, Health, Disability and ERISA took place last week in a new location, sunny Austin, TX (I was there, and it was excellent). And this week one of our largest meetings, the Fidelity & Surety Law Committee Midwinter Meeting, is being held in New York City. We will end the month with our Lloyd's of London Part 2 Program, also in New York, with an amazing guest speaker slated to speak. I hope you were able to attend some of these fantastic programs, those who did found them to be very valuable.
The February 6-9 ABA Midyear Meeting in Chicago, IL is quickly approaching and this year we will convene at the Swiss˘tel. Do not let the recent cold weather reports deter you from attending this important meeting. Chicago is worth visiting at any time of the year, and all of the meeting hotels are connected by indoor walkways. Please join us and experience the invaluable opportunity TIPS provides to meet and network with attorneys and legal professionals from across the nation at our various social events, CLE and committee meetings. On Thursday, February 6th, the TIPS Corporate Counsel Committee is presenting a complimentary ethics CLE program sponsored by Thomson Reuters entitled Tracing Food: What You Don't Know Can Hurt You, which will be followed by a complimentary reception sponsored by Freeborn & Peters LLP. Our Plenary Session is Friday morning from 11-11:30 AM. The public service project, also on Friday, will be to render comfort and aid to "Court Case dogs," animals who-through no fault of their own-find themselves in government custody when legal action is instituted against their owners. Our Welcome Reception will be held on Saturday, February 8th at 6:30 PM. Please remember to both register for the meeting and to purchase tickets to our events and programming before they sell out.
I am also excited to announce the TIPS "Member Mondays" Free Teleconference CLE Series. Created to deliver valuable content to TIPS members, we will present a complimentary teleconference every other month. Our first teleconference, Cybercrime Claims, is scheduled for Monday, February 10th. Register now if you haven't done so already and watch for information regarding the remaining teleconference topics.
I look forward to meeting you at our upcoming events and programs, please come up and say "hello" when you see me.
